Detectives are examining CCTV footage and conducting door-to-door enquiries after a serious sexual assault in Renfrewshire.

The attack happened at about 8pm on Monday when a 27-year-old-woman walked along a footpath between Byres Road and Glenmalloch Place in Elderslie.

Police say she was struck by a man which caused her to fall over. He then subjected her to a serious sexual assault.

The suspect is described as a white, aged between 35 and 50, with dark-coloured hair which was receding on top.

He had a medium to stocky build, appeared clean-shaven and was wearing dark-coloured jogging bottoms with a light-coloured t-shirt.

Police Scotland officers have been carrying out door-to-door enquiries and gathering CCTV footage from the area in the hope it provides additional information.

Detective Inspector Louise Harvie said: "This area is well-used by local people as a shortcut to nearby shops on Main Street, it is also a popular spot for dog walkers.

"I am appealing to anyone who may have been in or near to the area yesterday evening, perhaps you saw someone acting a little suspiciously, maybe you saw someone running off, any piece of information could assist our enquiries and I would urge you to contact us.''
