A man has died after losing control of his motorbike in North Lanarkshire.

The crash happened at around 1.15am on Wednesday on Longriggend Road, near Airdrie.

Police Scotland named the man as Ian Spinks, 39, from Airdrie.

Officers say inquiries so far suggest Mr Spinks may have either hit, or swerved to avoid, a fence post on the roadway.

No other vehicles were involved in the collision.

The road was closed for several hours as crash scene investigators carried out inquiries at the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101.
