Nearly 300 thousand Scottish homes and businesses are set to receive high speed fibre broadband by spring next year in a £2.5billion scheme.
BT announced today that 291,000 properties across Scotland will have their internet upgraded, taking the number of premises with access to fibre broadband in Scotland to around 1.45 million.
This includes 25 communities such as Ellon, Forres, Blairgowrie, Lochgelly, Coatbridge and East Kilbride.
Fibre broadband can support greater online activity at one time, such as downloading a film, surfing the internet and playing online games.
The project is part of a £2.5billion development to roll out fibre broadband to two-thirds of homes and businesses across the UK by the end of spring 2014.
