Woman Raped In Daylight In Newcastle

A woman's been raped near a busy shopping area in Newcastle city centre.
Police are carrying out enquiries next to Northumberland Street, near to the entrance to Eldon Square after a woman reported she was raped at around 6pm yesterday.
Newcastle City Centre Neighbourhood Inspector Darren Adams said:
"We understand the impact reports of this nature have on victims and also the local community."
"I'd like to reassure people coming into Newcastle City Centre that we will have officers on patrol and anyone concerned can speak to an officer."
"We would ask anyone with information to come forward and speak to us in particular anyone who was in the area yesterday evening."
"We have specially trained officers will continue to offer the victim the support required at this distressing time."
