A man has been charged with attempted murder after a woman was found seriously injured in a car in Jesmond.
44 year old Pervaiz Mirza, of Shrewsbury Close, Newcastle has been charged with attempted murder and dangerous driving.
He will appear before Newcastle Magistrates' Court later.
This follows an incident on Monday, December 22, where a vehicle had collided with a concrete post on the central motorway in the underpass at the Jesmond exit.
A 50-year-old woman was found inside the vehicle with serious injuries.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman was found in a car with serious injuries in Jesmond.
At 10.43pm last night (Monday 22nd December) police were informed one vehicle had collided with a concrete post on the central motorway in the underpass at the Jesmond exit in Newcastle.
Officers attended the scene and found a 50-year-old woman in the car with serious injuries.
It is thought she had been assaulted before the collision.
She was taken to hospital for treatment and her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
A 44-year-old man, who was also in the vehicle, has been arrested and is in police custody.
