Posters which have been put up in the Hebburn area claiming someone's responsible for sexual offences have been condemned by the police.

On Sunday, November 17th, police received a report about the posters on display around the Carr Ellison Park area.

Similar posters have also been displayed recently on the town's Hedgeley Road.

Officers are trying to find out who's responsible for the posters.

Hebburn Neighbourhood Inspector Ian King said:
"We of course take any allegation of a sexual offence very seriously and all reports are fully investigated.

However, following investigations, we can confirm there is no truth whatsoever in these particular allegations contained on the posters.

These posters are malicious. We are continuing to make enquiries as to their origin. I would ask anyone who sees posters of this nature displayed or who has information on who is creating or displaying them to contact us so that we can take action."

People can contact police on 101, extension 69191 quoting reference number 1239 17/11/13, or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where all information will be dealt with in the strictest of confidence.
