Unemployment Climbs In The North East

There’s some bad news on the job front in the North East, the number of people out of worked climbed by 6,000.

The North East has the highest unemployment in the country.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed that a total of 148,000 people were unemployed in the region from January to March.

The number of unemployed people increased by 4.2%, which means nearly 10% of people in the region are out of work.  

Across the country unemployment fell by 45,000 between January and March, leaving 2.6 million people out of work.

Meanwhile the number of people claiming jobseeker's allowance last month fell by 13,700 to 1.59 million, which is the biggest fall since July 2010.
