The Middlesbrough Transporter Bridge will stay closed into the middle of next month while work to repaint and repair it continues.
It's part of £2.6 million of work on the bridge - which was last painted 10 years ago.
The bridge was closed at the end of August and it had been thought it would take 40 days for the work to be completed.
A replacement bus service between Middlesbrough and Port Clarence is in use during the works.
The project, which is being funded by a Heritage Lottery Fund grant, will include lift access to the upper walkway, improvements to the visitor centre and the development of new heritage and sculpture trails.
