Arrest Over Sunderland Rape

A man's been arrested after a teenager was raped in Sunderland.

The 22-year-old man's in police custody and helping police with their enquiries.

It's after an 18 year old reported she'd been raped in Sunderland.

It's believed to have happened between 11.30pm and midnight in an area of woodland in Keelman's Lane just off St Luke's Road.

A teenager's been raped in an area of woodland in Sunderland.

Police were called at 12.50am on Saturday, October 11th, after reports that an 18-year-old woman had been raped.

It's believed to have happened between 11.30pm and midnight in an area of woodland in Keelman's Lane just off St Luke's Road.

The offender is described as being white, around 5ft 4ins tall and aged between 18 to 25.

Enquiries are ongoing into the incident and police are appealing for the public's help.

Officers want to speak to anyone who was in the area of Keelman's Lane or St Luke's Road around the time of the offence.

They specifically want to trace three potential witnesses who they believe were in the area and who may have information.

They want to speak to a man who was walking in Keelman's Lane with two dogs around 11.30pm.

They also want to speak to two men who spoke to a couple walking along Hilton Road at around 10.30pm.

Extra officers are in the area carrying out enquiries and providing reassurance to the local community. Specially trained officers are working with the victim to make sure she has the support she needs.

The three witnesses, or anyone with any information that could help with enquiries, is asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191 quoting reference number 68 11/10/14.
