Sunderland Footballer Faces Drink-Drive Charge

Sunderland striker Stephane Sessegnon has been charged with drink driving.

The 29 year old was arrested while team mates played in a cup game on Tuesday night.

He was stopped by Northumbria Police on Westgate Road in Newcastle, at 7.51pm on Tuesday, around the time the Black Cats went 1-0 down to MK Dons in the Capital One Cup clash at the Stadium of Light.

A police spokesman said Sessegnon, who plays for the Benin national side, has been charged with drink driving and will appear before Newcastle Magistrates' Court on October 4th.

He said:
"At 7.51pm on Tuesday August 27 a 29-year-old man was arrested on Westgate Road, Newcastle, on suspicion of drink driving.

Stephane Sessegnon, of Runnymede Road, Ponteland, has been charged with drink driving and is due to appear before Newcastle Magistrates on October 4th.''

Sunderland went on to win the cup tie 4-2.
