Paraguay international defender Paolo Da Silva has moved to Spanish side Real Zaragoza after 18 months on Wearside.
The 30 year old centre back played 21 times for the Black Cats, with his final appearance coming against Notts County in a 2-1 FA cup defeat earlier in January.
Da Silva found his opportunities limited this season, starting just two games and has spent much of the season on the bench.
A statement on the Sunderland website stated that "Real have paid an undisclosed fee for the 30-year-old, who impressed for his country at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa."
Da Silva's departure comes a day after striker David Healy left the club to join Glasgow Rangers.
