Olympic Torch Set To Visit North East

The Olympic torch route will pass through the North East as part of the build up to the 2012 games.

The 70-day, 8,000-mile torch relay will snake across the country, starting on May 19 2012, before reaching the opening ceremony at the Olympic Stadium on July 27.

The torch will arrive in the region on the 14th June in Alnwick, before heading to Newcastle on the 15th. The 16th June will see it pass through Durham, before leaving the North East through Middlesbrough on the 17th June.

The aim is that 95% of the UK population would take no longer than an hour to travel to the relay.
