Northumbria Police Officer Assaulted

A man is arrested in Scottswood after a police officer is punched in the face.

It happened at 10.25pm on Saturday October 29th as two officers in a marked police car were on patrol in the Whickham View area of Scottswood.

They pulled up alongside a man at the side of the road, who, while speaking to the officers, punched the driver of the patrol car through the open window.

The second officer managed to stop the attack and a 26 year old man was arrested on suspicion of assault.

Both officers were taken to hospital for treatment to facial injuries.
