North Shields: Police Begin Murder Investigation

Police have begun a murder investigation after a man's body was found in a flat in North Shields.
Northumbria Police say officers found the man, who was in his 20s, in Stanley Street, at 2.20pm on Friday.
Detective Chief Inspector Christina Barrett said: "We received a report expressing concern for the occupant of a flat in Stanley Street on Friday afternoon.
"We entered the property and found a man aged in his 20s inside with injuries.
"A post-mortem was carried out and a murder investigation is now under way.
"We are in the process of informing the man's relatives and inquiries are ongoing.
"If anyone saw anything or anyone suspicious in Stanley Street in the days leading up to this incident I'd ask them to contact us as soon as possible.
"Officers are carrying out house-to-house inquiries in the area and we are doing all we can to identify the person or people responsible for this incident.''
Ms Barrett said extra officers had been sent to the area to carry out extra patrols and reassure the public.
She appealed for anyone with information to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
