North East Man Dies in Taxi Crash

A man has died after he was hit by a taxi in County Durham on Sunday Morning.

43 year old Darren Wake of Wheatley Hill was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision shortly after 1.20am, on the A181 at Running Waters.

Durham Police believe he stepped on to the road. The minibus taxi was taking people to their homes in the Peterlee area.

Accident investigations saw the road closed for 4 hours. Police are appealing for any witnesses.
