The annual 'Hoppings' fair on Newcastle's Town Moor has been postponed over fears over health and safety.
This year marks the 130th year of the Hoppings fun fair, but the amount of rain we've had in the last few days has left the ground so soggy stall holders have been unable to set up in the thick mud.
The fair was due to be opened by Newcastle's Mayor today (Friday 22nd June) and for it to run until Saturday 30th June.
There's no word yet on when the fair will be opened, but for updates keep your eye on @TheHoppings on Twitter and the official Hoppings website HERE
A statement issued on behalf of Newcastle City Council, the Freemen and the Showmen's Guild, said:
"Due to unprecedented rainfall, the official opening of the Town Moor Fair tomorrow has been postponed. "We will assess the weather conditions on a daily basis and make a decision as to when the fair can open based on the ground conditions and weather forecast.
Our intention is to ensure that the Town Moor Fair is a safe and enjoyable experience, but the continued rainfall is making this difficult to achieve."
