Newcastle have suffered a major blow to their striking options just days after selling their star striker Andy Carroll to Liverpool, in a £35m deal.

Shola Ameobi, the most recognised striker left at the club, could be out of action for a month after fracturing a cheekbone.

The injury came early in the game against Fulham where former Newcastle man Damien Duff scored the only goal of the game after 67 minutes.

The injury leaves Newcastle short of options up front. They will now look to rely on Leon Best and the 19 year old youngster Nile Ranger for goals in their upcoming games.
