A man's body has been found after a fire at a bin store in Whitley Bay.
Police were called just before 6.20am this morning to reports of a fire at a bin store on Whitley Road.
Officers attended the scene along with the fire service where the fire was extinguished and the man's body was recovered from the bin store.
A cordon is currently in place for further investigations - Police tell Capital they don't believe the man has been assaulted.
Acting Detective Chief Inspector Andy Fairlamb, from Northumbria Police's Major Crime Team, said:
"Enquiries are in their very early stages in relation to this incident.
Our officers are currently at the scene carrying out investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding it.
I would urge anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area to contact us as they may have information to assist with the ongoing enquiries.
"I'd also ask anyone with concerns to speak to officers on patrol in the area who are patrolling to offer reassurance to residents."
