Man Jailed For Newcastle Bar Attack
A man's behind bars for attacking another in a Newcastle city centre bar.
33 year old Barry Jopling, of Bideford Road, Kenton, was jailed for nine months when he appeared at Newcastle Crown Court last week after pleading guilty to assault.
It happened at 1am on Monday, September 27, 2010, when the victim, a 28-year-old man, was in Mood in The Gate. He was assaulted by Jopling who was arrested at the scene and later charged.
DC Dave Croskery, Newcastle Central CID, said: "This was a completely unprovoked attack on the victim, who was just enjoying a night out with his friends. He suffered a fractured cheekbone and eye socket during the assault.
"It's completely unacceptable behaviour and anyone who gets involved in violent crime in the city centre can expect to spend time behind bars."
