Man Hurt In Suspected Gas Explosion

A man's in hospital after being hurt in an explosion at a bungalow in Heaton.

It happened in Huntcliffe Terrace at 2.16pm on Saturday, July 21st.

The 65 year old man who was hurt is still recovering from the incident and receiving treatment at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.

He suffered minor burns and a badly broken right ankle which requires surgery, his condition is stable.

It's not being treated as suspicious.

Neighbours have reported a strong smell of gas in the area after the incident.
