Man Has Throat Slashed In Sunderland

A man's been attacked with a knife in broad daylight near the University Metro Station in Sunderland.

A man's been arrested after a 21 year old was attacked with a knife in broad daylight in Sunderland.

It happened near the University Metro Station on Sunday (22nd September)

A 32-year-old's been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent to commit GBH.


UPDATED 07:30 23RD SEPTEMBER

The 21 year old victim was walking along a grassy area at 1:43pm yesterday (Sunday 22nd September).

He was approached by a man who assaulted him with what is believed to be a knife.

The victim was taken to the Sunderland Royal Hospital where he is receiving treatment for a cut to his neck.

Superintendent Jim Napier of Sunderland Area Command said:
"We are appealing for the public's help to identify the man responsible for this attack.

This is an incident that happened in the middle of the day, and there may have been people around who saw something but didn't realise what they were witnessing, so we would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at that time.

Incidents of this type are very unusual and we understand that people will feel concern. Neighbourhood officers are out and about in the area in support of the investigation and to provide reassurance.
