Golden Boy Turns On Newcastle Lights

Paralympic gold medallist and World Record swimmer Josef Craig's turning on Newcastle's city centre Christmas lights.
The S7 400m freestyle World Record holder who won Gold at the London Paralympic Games will kick start Newcastle's Christmas season on Thursday, 22nd November at an exciting ceremony at Grey Street starting at 5.30pm.
This year the annual event will be supported by Capital FM and breakfast show hosts Bodg, Matt and JoJo will be getting the party started with seasonal family fun.
They will be joined on stage by Geordie internet stars May Arcade who'll be bringing their own take on the festive season.
The night which is one of the highlights on the city's calendar will also see the winners of this year's Design a Christmas Light competition being officially crowned on stage.
Once again Newcastle's Grainger Street, Nun Street, Nelson Street, Newgate Street, Neville Street, Dean Street and the Quayside will also be illuminated thanks to Business Improvement District company NE1 Ltd.
Cllr Henri Murison, Newcastle City Council?s Cabinet Member for Quality of Life, said:
"I am delighted that Josef Craig, one of our Paralympic heroes, will be switching on Newcastle's Christmas lights this year and officially launching our city's festive season.
His gold medal winning performance at this year's Games and that of his team-mates have been a real inspiration to us all.
I am also delighted to welcome the Capital FM breakfast team and thank them for supporting this year's celebrations.
I am sure Bodg, Matt and JoJo will get everyone in a festive mood."
