Gas Explosion Leaves Six People Hurt

Six people - including three police officers - have been seriously hurt after a gas explosion at a flat in Gateshead.
Northumbria police say the blast happened at 5:30pm last night (Monday 21st May) when officers were called to Marion Court following reports of a smell of gas.
The 3 male officers were inside the property at the time of the explosion, along with an elderly man.
Paramedics went in to look after the man when there appears to have been an explosion.
A gas engineer was also injured and has also been taken to the RVI in Newcastle.
Their injuries are serious but not believed to be life-threatening.
Northern Gas Networks say there was no fault with the local supply.
The Health and Safety Executive have now been informed and will take the lead in the inestigation into what happened.
