Elderly Man Knocked Down In Peterlee Hit And Run

A 72 year old man has been seriously injured in a hit and run in Peterlee.
It happened last night (Saturday 2nd of May) at around 11:30pm when a Peugeot lost control while negotiating traffic calming measures on Blackhills Road.
The car crossed the carriageway, smashed through railings and into the front of a shop, hitting the pedestrian.
Officers from Durham Police are now trying to track down the driver, who sped from the scene and then abandoned his vehicle nearby.
The victim, a pensioner who lived locally, received leg and head injuries in the smash and was transported to James Cook University Hospital for treatment.
