Police are investigating after fireworks were put through the door of a Darlington mosque.
They were called at 10:05pm on Friday (19th October) after reports the Jamia Mosque on North Lodge Terrace had had lit fireworks through the letterbox.
The mosque suffered minimal damage in the incident, but police have asked potential witnesses to come forward.
Officers are carrying out door to door enquiries and checking CCTV footage in an effort to determine who was responsible.
Police say they can't rule out a racial or religious aspect to the incident because it is a place of worship.
Duty Inspector Nadim Khaliq, from Darlington Police has asked anyone with information about the incident to contact him through the non-emergency 101 number.
