Cyclist Attacked With Hammer In South Shields

A cyclist's been attacked with a hammer as he rode along a South Shields street.

It happened just before 1.30am, on Monday, February 17th.

The 20-year-old victim was riding his bike along the West Park Road when he was attacked with what is believed to be a hammer.

He suffered facial injuries as a result of the attack for which he is receiving treatment at South Tyneside Hospital.

A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent.

A 20-year-old woman and 19-year-old man have also been arrested on suspicion of affray.

All three are currently helping police with enquiries.

Officers are keen to speak to any witnesses to the attack as their enquiries continue.
