A brand new fun running event's coming to Sunderland - where participants get covered in colour!

The 5k 'Color Run' is an idea that's come over from the States and is inspired by the Indian Holi Festival.

Over there it's known as 'The happiest 5k on the planet'. It's not timed, meaning groups of friends can walk, jog, dance and party their way along the course at any pace.

At each kilometre, colour explosions cover runners in kaleidoscopic fashion before DJs entertain the crowd in the Colour Festival Area after the finish line.

This year's event takes place on Sunday 20th July at 11am in Sunderland and runners of all shapes, sizes, ages and speeds are invited to take part. The exact route will be announced in the coming weeks.

Registration is open now and you can enter HERE

The colour used at the events is made from food grade cornstarch. It is 100% natural and causes no harm to skin or the environment.

Participants begin the run wearing The Color Run white t-shirt which forms the canvas for various colour stations located throughout the course.
