Child Abuse

Reports of child sex abuse are up by a third, with more than 2,100 investigations across the North East in just one year.

The spike is being partly blamed on an increase in reports after the Jimmy Savile scandal.

Across England and Wales as whole there were more than 31,000 allegations - that's 85 per day.

Just over a quarter of the victims were under 11 and almost 3 thousand were 5 or under.

Here is a breakdown by police force of the number of sexual offences against children aged under 18 recorded in 2013/14, according to data provided by the NSPCC.

Cleveland - 411
Durham - 611
Northumbria - 718
North Yorkshire - 393
