Child Abuse Cases Up In The North East

Reports of child sex abuse are up by a third, with more than 2,100 investigations across the North East in just one year.

The spike is being partly blamed on an increase in reports after the Jimmy Savile scandal.

Across England and Wales as whole there were more than 31,000 allegations - that's 85 per day.

Just over a quarter of the victims were under 11 and almost 3 thousand were 5 or under.
