Case Dropped For 'Offensive' MH17 Tweet

A teenager accused of posting offensive tweets about two Newcastle United football fans who were killed on Flight MH17 has had the charge against him dropped.

The 18 year old, from Sunderland, was due in court but the Crown Prosecution Service has decided to discontinue the case.

Super-fans John Alder, 63, and Liam Sweeney, 28, were flying on the doomed Malaysia Airlines flight to New Zealand to watch Newcastle play a series of friendly games.

They were killed along with 296 other people when the plane came down over eastern Ukraine.

An online fundraising page set up in their memory by Sunderland supporters has since raised more than £32,000.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: ``An investigation took place in relation to this case and the decision to charge was made.

``Following a review of the evidence by the Crown Prosecution Service, a decision was made not to proceed with the prosecution.''
