Ashington Soldier To Help Fight Ebola Outbreak

A soldier from Ashington has been deployed to Sierra Leone to help the UK's military effort to combat the deadly Ebola virus.

Sergeant Neil Wold is helping to repair the electrics in the UK field hospital that has been set up as part of the UK project in Sierra Leone.

Previously, Sgt Wold has been to Iraq and Afghanistan on operation.

He has also deployed to Canada and Belize on large scale exercises.

The 34 year old said:
"This deployment is completely different to what I am used to, however it is great to be out here and great to be getting stuck in.

These people need our help and that is exactly what we intend to do."

The UK military deployment to Sierra Leone is part of a wider humanitarian aid program lead by DFID and involving Save the Children and the Sierra Leonean Government and Military.
