Two men and two women are being held after a 30 year old died in a fight at a house in South Shields
Officers responded to reports of a disturbance in Longleat Gardens, South Tyneside, just before 1.30am.
A man, 30, was found dead at an address in the street and police arrested two men aged 23 and 29 and two women aged 26 and 30.
The man who died has not yet been formally identified and a post mortem will be held later.
Detective chief inspector Christina Barrett, leading the investigation, said: "We would appeal for any witnesses or anyone with information to get in touch with police. "A number of arrests were quickly made and it is believed all were known to each other.''
