£10,000 Cash Reward For Post Office Robbery Arrests

A £10,000 cash reward's on offer to help arrest armed robbers who targeted a post office in Wylam, Northumberland.

The raid happened at 8:09am on Friday, February 10th, when two men entered Wylam Post Office in Laburnum Terrace armed with jemmy type instruments. 

They were confronted by the Postmaster and his wife and assaulted the pair, who are both in their late 60s. 

They made off with an amount of cash and a car belonging to Post Office staff, which was later recovered in nearby Woodcroft Road. 

The Postmaster suffered a rib injury and bruising to his face and his wife suffered bruising to her back. They received treatment at hospital and were later released. 

The two offenders were wearing dark clothes and balaclavas. One of the men is described as white, around 6ft tall wearing a black woollen balaclava with two eye holes cut out. He had brown eyes and dark mousy coloured eyebrows. He was wearing a dark blue nylon jacket, similar to a shell suit jacket, black tracksuit bottoms, dark trainers and spoke with a local accent. 

The second man is also described as white, around 5ft 6ins tall, of a stocky build, but not fat. He was wearing a black woollen balaclava with two eye holes cut out, a baggy looking sports-type shell suit jacket, pants with ties on the bottom. 

Enquiries into the robbery are ongoing and the Post Office have offered £10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. 

Major Crime Detective Chief Inspector Ged Noble said:
"This was an incredibly distressing experience for the Postmaster and his wife and the incident has had an impact on the whole community. 

We have been supporting the victims and working closely with them since the robbery and they want to express their thanks to the public for all of the help and support offered since the robbery. 

Enquiries are ongoing into the robbery and The Post Office have offered a £10,000 reward for information. 

I'd urge anyone who knows who is responsible for this crime to contact police or Crimestoppers, anonymously if they wish, as soon as possible."
