Investigations are underway after a woman was raped in Manchester city centre.
It happened at about 00.15 on Monday 4th July in an alleyway off Spear Street.
The 33 year old got chatting to a man in the Wetherspoons pub in Piccadilly Gardens earlier on the evening of 3 July 2011. They left the pub together at about 11.30pm and as they walked past the alleyway the man pushed her onto a car bonnet and raped her.
A 28-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of rape and has been bailed pending further inquiries.
Police are now appealing to anyone who has information to come forward.
Detective Constable Paul Wilde said:
'While this rape took place in a secluded area, we believe there may be people who were either parked up in the alleyway or nearby who might have witnessed what happened.
'There would also have been a lot of people milling around the bars in the area who might have either seen or heard something and the alleyway is overlooked by a hotel so there might also be people in those hotel rooms who heard or saw something so if you did then please call us.
'The woman is being supported by specially trained officers after her ordeal. However, the best peace of mind this woman can have is to see her attacker caught so I would urge anyone who knows anything, no matter how small it might seem, to get in touch.'
