Police are investigating after a woman was raped in a park in Manchester.

On Sunday 1st July a member of the public found a woman extremely distressed and with serious injuries near to Debdale Park in Gorton.

The victim, a 27 year old woman, had been violently raped.

The woman was attacked sometime between 12.30am and 1.20am and police believe it may have happened by canal path near the lower reservoir.

The woman was taken to hospital for treatment to her injuries and was later discharged.

Detective Chief Inspector Chris Bridge from GMP’s Public Protection Division said: “We have specially trained officers supporting the young woman at what is clearly a very difficult time for her and a team of detectives investigating this case to identify who is responsible.

“I am urging anyone who may have seen a young woman around the canal path area between 12.30am and 1.20am on Sunday morning, or who may have seen anyone else hanging around or acting suspiciously in this area, to please get in touch with us.

“While we do not wish to alarm people, we would also encourage people to be vigilant and to stick to well-lit areas if they are walking late at night.

“Officers have been carrying out patrols around the Debdale Park area over the past week to provide reassurance to residents and these will continue.”
