Unemployment Climbs In The North West

There’s some bad news on the jobs from in the North East, unemployment’s on the rise.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed 329,000 people were unemployed in the region from January to March.

This means almost 1 in 10 people here are jobless, after an increase of 3.4%.

Across the country unemployment fell by 45,000 between January and March, leaving 2.6 million people out of work.

Meanwhile, the number of people claiming jobseeker's allowance last month fell by 13,700 to 1.59 million, which is the biggest fall since July 2010.
