Three Men Arrested And Gun Found After Fight In Moss Side

Police are questioning three men after a large fight in Moss Side last night.

Just after 8pm on Tuesday 26 April, officers were called to Gerry Wheale Square. It is not yet known whether or not the gun had been used. Three men were arrested on suspicion of firearms offences.

A green Ford Focus, believed to have been involved in the brawl was abandoned on nearby Alexandra Avenue. A large area has been cordoned off while an investigation continues.

Assistant Chief Constable Neil Wain said: "We appreciate this situation was frightening for residents but we would like to reassure people that our officers were on the scene quickly last night and will continue to work tirelessly and investigate fully.

"Inquiries lead us to believe that this dispute involved two groups of people who know each other and was not a random outburst of fighting.

"We have three people in custody for questioning and taken a deadly weapon off the streets but our work does not stop there and we will be out working with the community today making inquiries and ensuring that those who have questions and concerns can speak to someone.

"The community are very much part of this investigation - if you know something and want to talk to us, all information can be treated in the strictest of confidence."
