Salford Man In Court Over Boxing Day Shooting

A man from Greater Manchester is due to appear in court accused of the Boxing Day killing of an Indian student.

Kiaran Stapleton, 21, from Ordsall, Salford, is due to enter a plea to the charge he murdered Anuj Bidve, 23, from Pune, India, who was studying at Lancaster University.

The accused called himself ``Psycho Stapleton'' at an earlier court hearing when asked his name.

Mr Bidve, described as a ``promising and clever'' student, was shot once in the head at around 1.30am on December 26 last year. He died a short time later in hospital.

He was with a group of fellow Indian students visiting Manchester for Christmas when he was gunned down as the group walked through Ordsall and headed for the city centre.

Mr Bidve was studying for a micro-electronics postgraduate qualification after he arrived in the UK in September.

The plea and case management hearing will take place at Manchester Crown Court.
