A body pulled out of the canal at Salford Quays has been identified as Chris Brahney who went missing after the Stone Roses Gig at Heaton park a week last Friday.
Police were called out just before 9.35am this morning to reports that a body had been spotted in the Manchester Ship Canal, near to Media City, Salford Quays.
Chris was last seen by friends at about 11.30pm on Friday 29 June 2012, when he was at the Stone Roses concert in Heaton Park, Manchester.
His friends searched extensively to try and find him and over a hundred thousand people joined a facebook group to try and track him down.
A post mortem examination is due to take place tomorrow.
Thousands of people have posted on a Facebook group set up to try and find him.
Over 122,000 people signed up to the page called HELP FIND CHRIS BRAHNEY.
Hundreds of people took part in searches for Chris since he was last seen after the Stone roses gig.
This statement was put on the Facebook page earlier by Francesca Tracey: "It is with great sadness that on behalf of the Brahney family. I am writing to you all. The police will be issuing a formal statement soon regarding the body that was found in the Canal this morning. At this time we believe that it is Chris, however formal identification has still to take place.
"The family would like to thank everyone for all the kind words, thoughts and prayers that you have sent our way. Thank you for all the support, it has given them immense strength and courage.
"Please respect the family’s wishes and ensure that they are left alone during this difficult time."
