A 40-year-old man is being questioned by police over the suspected murder of a woman whose body was found in a house in Newton Heath.
Officers made the discovery after 10.15am on Tuesday 18th June in Surbiton Road.
A post mortem examination is due to take place to work out how the woman died.
Chief Superintendent Russ Jackson, Commander of North Manchester Division said:
"This is an extremely sad event and undoubtedly it will cause genuine concern amongst local people.
"I know the community will appreciate that we are investigating this very serious matter and will be aware that we have made an arrest.
"We now need time to understand what has happened, although with the information we have at present we do not believe there to be any wider threat to local people.
"It is important now that we piece events together so can I ask that if you believe you have any knowledge of what happened or the run up to it to contact police on 0161 856 2468 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111."
