Wesley Clutterbuck was found with serious injuries after police were called to Fleece Street in the early hours of Saturday to reports of an assault.
He was taken to hospital but pronounced dead on Sunday.
Reece Kay from Waithlands Road in Rochdale has been charged with manslaughter and appeared before Bury Magistrates’ on Monday.
In a statement the family, said:
"Wesley was our son. He was only 19 years old and the most likeable, happy go lucky person you could ever meet.
"He was generous to a fault, and loved his life and adventure.
"His dream from a young age was to become a Royal Marine Commando and in 2012 he realised this dream and we were so immensely proud of Wes and his achievements.
"He was an avid kick boxer and spent a lot of his time looking after his health and body.
"On Saturday morning our lives were shattered.
"Wes was our life and, in his death, he has given renewed life to so many other people by his organ donations. His wish was to donate as many of his organs as possible and, in the main, this wish has been granted. This demonstrated Wes's selfless and kind attitude towards others.
"To all his family and friends Wes was "the best" and, he will remain so. We, his family, and especially his brothers and sisters are completely devastated by Wes's death and request that we are all left to grieve in peace."
