A 40 year old man has been charged over the death of Semelia Campbell who was trapped by an electronic gate in Manchester.
Kriston Kearns from Offerton Road in Hazel Grove is charged with killing Semelia by gross negligence manslaughter and will appear before Manchester Magistrates Court on 12 March 2013.
Police were called out to flats on Main Road just before 7.40pm on Monday 28 June 2010 to reports of a child trapped in an electronic gate.
On arrival officers discovered Semelia had been crushed between the gate and a retaining wall and found the electronic gate was stuck fast in the closed position.
After considerable efforts by the emergency services Semelia was freed and taken to hospital.
She never regained consciousness and sadly later died.
