A man has been jailed for 12 months for stabbing a police officer with a screwdriver in Bolton.
24 year old Shaughan Ryan Boardman, from Tonge Moor, pleaded guilty to the attack in May. He also admitted assaulting another officer and stealing two motorcycles.
Police looking into the thefts were called to Eagley Way, Bromley Cross. They found two men crouched over two motorbikes.
Boardman stabbed the officer twice as he tried to escape. The injured man was taken to hospital where he was treated for a cut to his side.
Police are continuing to search for a second man wanted in connection with the theft.
Boardman was sentenced to 12 months in prison at Bolton Crown Court.
Detective Constable Stuart Round, of Bolton CID, said: "This case demonstrates the dangers faced by police officers who are just trying to their job in their communities.
"Thankfully the officer's body armour did the job it was designed for and prevented a more serious injury and he has been able to make a full recovery."
