Man jailed for murdering wife in Manchester park

A man who stabbed his wife to death in Manchester has been jailed for life.

Brian Oliver from Radcliffe knifed Joanne 15 times in Heaton Park last September after he found out she met another man on Facebook.

The 40-year-old originally denied murder on the grounds of diminished responsibility, but dramatically changed his plea to guilty today - just a day into his trial. He has been told he will have to serve a minimum of 19 years.

Senior investigating officer Andy Tattersall said: "This was a truly tragic end to what had been a fractious relationship. We might never know exactly what caused Oliver to stab his wife that day. She was struck down in the prime of her life. Oliver now has to live with the knowledge that his violent actions have ended the life of an innocent woman."
