Police were called to Folkestone Road East in Clayton to reports of gunshots at 10.30 this morning. Officers also believe an explosion occurred at the scene.
They found the body of a 46-year-old man who has not yet been identified and a post-mortem examination to establish how he died is yet to take place.
At 10.39am, police got reports that shots had been fired at a house on Luke Road in Droylsden. Police also believe there was an explosion here, although no-one was injured.
The investigation is at an early stage and it is not yet known what type of weapons were used. Extra officers are in both areas, including armed response officers.
GMP believes both incidents are linked and may also be connected to the fatal shooting of Mark Short in Droylsden in May.
Police are currently searching for 29 year old Dale Cregan from the Droylsden area who is wanted in connection with the murder of Mark Short at the Cotton Tree Pub on 25 May 2012.
Police also want to speak to him in connection with today's incidents.
Police have released this statement:
"We believe the answers to what happened lie in the community and would appeal to anyone with any information to come forward. We have issued a picture of Dale Cregan and I would urge anyone who knows of his whereabouts to come forward. If you see him, do not approach him but call police immediately."
"Extra officers, including specialist firearms officers, are in both areas and we will have a significant police presence over the coming days and I would urge anyone with any concerns or who has any information they may want to share to come and speak to us."
