Man Dies After Police Chase Near Wigan

A man's been killed after being hit by a car on the M6 near Charnock Richard services following a police chase

The man, from the Blackpool area, had earlier failed to stop for a police in Blackpool at about 9pm last night (Sunday 10th November).

He then made off at speed in a grey Ford Focus Sport.

He made his way on to the M55 motorway and then on to the M6 motorway southbound.

At about 9.20pm and around one mile north of Charnock Richard services he stopped the car on the hard shoulder and ran across the three lanes of the southbound carriageway.

He was then hit by a car on the northbound carriageway and died at the scene.

The motorway's been closed in both directions between Junctions 27 and 28 - but is due to reopen this morning.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission's launched an investigation into what happened.
