Man Charged Over Salford Substation Break In

A Salford man who tried to break into a substation's been charged with burglary.

Martin Gavin was trying to steal copper cable from the substation on Rake Lane in Clifton.

Emergency services were called to the substation just before 5am on Thursday 16 June following reports a man had been electrocuted.

Abulance crews and police officers arrived to find the man badly burned.

He was taken to Wythenshawe hospital suffering significant from burns to his face, neck, hands and knees. He is still receiving medical treatment to his injuries.

A second man, aged 50, was arrested nearby on suspicion of theft and is on bail until 11 August 2011 pending further inquiries.
