Man charged over meat cleaver attack in Bolton

A man has been charged after a woman was attacked with a meat cleaver in Bolton on friday night.

The 33-year-old is due to appear before Bolton Magistrates' later today. He is charged with causing grievious bodily harm with intent, attempted robbery and possessing an offensive weapon.

The 23-year-old woman was attacked after she gave a man a lift to Duke Street. As she dropped him off he tried to steal her handbag. The pair struggled and she was hit on the head several times and needed 20 stitches.
