A man who bit a chunk out of another man's ear in Greater Manchester has been jailed.

Stephen Pellowe, from Ashton under Lyne, attacked the victim at the Swan Pub while he celebrated his 18th birthday

The 44 year old will spend 5 years behind bars.

He was found guilty following a nine day trial at Minshull Street Crown Court of grievous bodily harm.

On Sunday 9 May 2010 the victim was celebrating his birthday and visited the Swan pub with his father and a friend.

Pellowe followed the group into the beer garden where the attack happened.

The victim and his father both managed to escape and the victim had to have surgery as his injuries was so severe.

Detective Constable Phil Scargill, based at Tameside CID, said: "The victim was out with his father and friends celebrating what should have been a memorable occasion, unfortunately the memory of his 18th birthday will always be tarnished by this vicious attack."
