Officers from the Prison Corruption Unit at the North West Regional Organised Crime Unit (NWROCU) have arrested a HMP Forest Bank prison officer.
The man was aprehended on Monday.
At around 4pm, the 28-year-old man from Bolton was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in a public office and conveying a prohibited article into the prison. He has been taken to a local police station for questioning.
Detective Sergeant John Davies from NWROCU said: “The arrest is part of ongoing work between the prison and police to target corruption at the prison.
“We know the vast majority of prison officers are dedicated professionals who carry out their duties with integrity. But I hope today’s activity is another positive step in tackling prison corruption in the North West and we will continue our efforts to bring offenders to justice.”
