Firefighters Search Wigan Flats After Gas Explosion.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue say they received several calls at 2.45pm this afternoon reporting an explosion on Lime Street in Scholes.

Three crews, two from Wigan and one from Hindley Fire Station, were on the scene within minutes.

Firefighters discovered there had been what looks like an explosion on the fourth floor of a block of flats and a man was suffering from burns to his hands and head.

The man is being treated by the ambulance service while firefighters tackle a blaze and search the flats.

Greater Manchester Police are at the scene and a buildings inspector from Wigan Council has been called out.
